Dog Parks & Off-Leash Areas

The Town of Summitville maintains five fenced off-leash dog parks and designated voice-and-sight dog areas on select trails. Annual dog park memberships include key fob access to gated parks. Dogs must have current rabies vaccination and town dog license. Water stations and waste bags provided.

The Town Council will review progress on this initiative at their August 3 business meeting. Agenda items and supporting documents are posted on the Town of Summitville website 72 hours before each meeting.

Safety data from the Stone Creek area shows 17 reported incidents in the past 12 months, a 23% change from the previous year. The Sheriff’s Office has increased patrols along Left Fork Canyon Drive and added community outreach programs in response to resident feedback.

Background

A community information session will be held at the Stone Creek library on Saturday, July 18 at 7:00 PM. Translation services in Spanish and Nepali will be available. The session will also be livestreamed on the Town of Summitville YouTube channel.

Historical context: the Town of Summitville was established in 1887 and covers 741 square miles of diverse terrain from the Great Plains to the Continental Divide. The town’s population of approximately 330,000 residents is served by 2097 town employees across 50 departments and offices.

Funding of $390,000 for this initiative comes from a combination of federal grants, state matching funds, and the Town of Summitville General Fund. The Town Council approved the allocation during the 2026 budget session.
