WIC Nutrition Program for Families

The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program provides nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care and social services for eligible pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children up to age 5 in the Town of Summitville.

Historical context: the Town of Summitville was established in 1887 and covers 741 square miles of diverse terrain from the Great Plains to the Continental Divide. The town’s population of approximately 330,000 residents is served by 2012 town employees across 50 departments and offices.

According to Kevin Larsen, director of Clerk & Recorder, this program served 73% more residents in 2026 compared to the previous year. “We’re seeing unprecedented demand from communities across the Town of Summitville, particularly in Elkhorn and the surrounding area,” Kevin Larsen said.

What You Need to Know

The Town of Summitville has partnered with the towns of Summitville, Pinecrest, Elkhorn, and Riverbend on this project. Combined investment across all jurisdictions totals $349,000, making it one of the largest collaborative efforts in the town’s history.

The Aspen Crossing open space property encompasses 2,298 acres and features 9 miles of multi-use trails. Seasonal wildlife closures may apply from December 15 through July 15 to protect nesting raptors and elk calving areas.
