Summitville Reservoir Trail Reopens After Bridge Repair

The popular Summitville Reservoir Trail is open again after a two-month closure to replace the footbridge over Aspen Creek. The new span is wider, sturdier, and built to handle decades of high-country weather.

The trail, one of the most-used recreation routes in town, closed in early spring when inspectors found that the original timber bridge had reached the end of its safe service life. Parks & Recreation crews, working with a local contractor, removed the old structure and installed a new steel-and-composite bridge designed for both foot and bicycle traffic.

What’s new on the trail

Beyond the bridge itself, the project added improved drainage on the approaches and a short stretch of resurfaced path that had been prone to washouts. The work was funded through the parks portion of the Town’s capital budget and completed ahead of the busy summer season.

The full loop around the reservoir is once again open from trailhead to trailhead. Visitors will find fresh signage, repaired railings, and a smoother crossing at Aspen Creek. Day-use parking remains available at the north and south lots.
